Refractory Applications

Refractories are materials designed to withstand the very high temperatures, usually above 500 degrees Celsius, encountered in modern manufacturing. More heat-resistant than metals, they line the hot surfaces found inside many industrial processes and in harsh operating conditions, such as those found in furnaces and kilns. Demand exists for refractory solutions that offer improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions while ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of the refractory linings.

Refractory products generally fall into one of two broad categories: Preformed shapes or unshaped compositions, often called specialty or monolithic refractoriesBASF construction additives offer valuable additives for unshaped refractories, also called castables, such as high-performance dispersants. Our Castament® brand has made a name for itself worldwide in this sector. Our other additives with different effects on the refractory concrete have also found their way into the market.
