Sadaf Khalighi

Delft University of Technology, Netherlands

Sadaf Khalighi is a Ph.D. candidate at Delft University of Technology, specializing in paving material engineering. With a background in chemical engineering, she has contributed to research projects focusing on binder aging and applying advanced machine learning methods to the chemomechanics of infrastructure materials. Her work has been published in Construction and Building Materials, and she is involved in developing experimental and data-driven tools for the chemomechanical characterization of paving materials.

At the Asphalt Symposium, Sadaf will present her research on accelerated laboratory simulation of field aging for paving binders using hydrogen peroxide and UV light: UV-Peroxide Aging (UPA). This novel aging protocol combines UV radiation and hydrogen peroxide to accelerate the oxidative aging of asphalt binders, yielding field-comparable chemical and rheological properties in significantly shorter durations. This talk is particularly relevant for researchers and practitioners focused on binder characterization, aging simulation, and developing more representative and efficient laboratory conditioning methods.
