Pushing for a 90% recycling rate of fiber-based packaging: Prof. Dr. Thomas Schiele reelected to 4evergreen alliance steering group
Developing smart end-of-life-solutions is a team effort – this is why the 4evergreen industry alliance brings together over 100 leading companies from across the entire fibre-based packaging value chain.
From packaging manufacturers to converters, brand owners and recyclers – the joint goal is to raise the overall recycling rate of this packaging type to 90% by 2030. Four key areas are in focus:
- evaluating recyclability
- designing for circularity
- driving effective collection and sorting
- exploring innovative sorting and recycling technologies.
BASF has been part of these efforts from the beginning and is actively participating in the working groups. Since 2024, Prof. Dr. Thomas Schiele, Vice President Adhesives, Fiberbonding & Paper Coating Chemicals, has been part of the Steering Group and was recently reelected.

“Truly sustainable solutions can only be actioned together with all the players involved in the process – with us as the manufacturer of the basic and specialty chemicals, with the adhesive manufacturers, the product and packaging manufacturers, the brand owners as well as with the recycling industry. This is why we are an active member of 4evergreen and other industry alliances with similar goals.”
