The future of lithium-ion batteries starts here

BASF and Group14 Technologies, a pioneer in silicon battery technology, have developed a market-ready solution for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. This innovation enables silicon-dominant anodes, meeting the high demands of the electric vehicle industry, including higher energy densities, faster charging capabilities and reduced system costs.

More about Group14 Technologies

Market-ready solution for next-generation lithium-ion batteries at a glance

  • BASF and Group14 have developed a solution for high-performance, next-generation battery cells with a silicon content of up to 70 percent

  • Group14’s SCC55® silicon-carbon technology enables silicon-dominant anodes with exceptional durability

  • BASF’s Licity® 2698 X F binder system has been specifically developed for silicon-rich anodes, stabilizing the electrode in the most demanding conditions

  • Together, these products provide a drop-in solution for silicon-dominant anodes

  • The resulting cell chemistry allows for a cycle life of over 500 cycles at high temperatures of 45°C (113°F), while delivering nearly four times the capacity of a traditional graphite battery

Electric mobility is among the most promising solutions to today's climate and energy challenges. The key to successful electric vehicles and their mass adoption lies with the technology of lithium-ion batteries. But there is still need for technical improvement - especially, when it comes to charge capacity. By envisioning distinct materials for lithium-ion batteries we at BAS can help to - quite literally - drive this change. Therefore, we developed a new binder series for anodes in lithium-ion batteries.
