Concrete Intermediates for Admixtures.
Smart chemistry. Sustainable concrete.

At BASF Construction Additives performance is created through an integrated scientific journey. By connecting polymer innovation, mineralogical understanding, and concrete application expertise, we turn complex chemistry into reliable solutions for modern and sustainable concrete. Our approach follows a clear path: from the Polymer Innovation Lab, through deep mineralogical insight, to real-world validation in our Concrete Competence Center.

Polymer Innovation Lab

Innovation starts in our Polymer Innovation Lab, where performance is designed at the molecular level. Here, our R&D teams develop polymer intermediates creating the chemical foundation for robustness, consistency, and adaptability in concrete. Thanks to our strong backward integration into the BASF Verbund, we combine fundamental chemical expertise with industrial reliability. This allows us to translate molecular concepts into scalable, reproducible solutions. Performance is not adjusted later - it is engineered directly into the polymer.

Mineralogy

Mineralogy is the connecting element that links chemistry with real cement and SCM systems. Our in house mineralogy experts analyze phase composition, reactivity, and variability of cements, supplementary cementitious materials, and alternative raw materials. By combining this knowledge with polymer chemistry, we understand how additives interact with specific binder systems – under real conditions, not idealized assumptions. This fundamental insight enables targeted solutions, reduced trial and error, and stable performance even as raw materials continue to change.

Concrete Competence Center

In our Concrete Competence Center, polymer innovation and mineralogical understanding come together in application driven performance testing. We validate performance under the conditions that define modern construction: low carbon concrete concepts, high SCM contents, alternative binders, and changing cement compositions. Workability, rheology, strength development, robustness, and compatibility are tested in systems that reflect today’s and tomorrow’s reality. Our solutions deliver reliable performance as concrete formulations evolve.
