In April 2023 the EU Member States voted in favor of the Commission's proposed restriction on synthetic polymer microparticles with the target of reducing the release of microplastics to the environment. The restriction was published in the Official Journal of the EU on the September 27, 2023, and entered into force on October 17, 2023.
